8/6/2023 0 Comments Last man standing kristin"Kuwaitis really need these two branches of government to work together." That could mean the dissolution of parliament by royal decree or constitutional decision. Sheikh Meshal has vaguely threatened "forceful measures" if these elections fail to break the gridlock between the appointed Cabinet and the democratically elected assembly. Lawmakers have grilled ministers over alleged corruption and ministers have resigned in exasperation. Since the previous emir, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, died two years ago, Kuwait's long-standing political deadlock has worsened. Kuwait has the freest and most active assembly in the Persian Gulf, but political power is still largely concentrated in the hands of the ruling Al Sabah family, which appoints the prime minister and Cabinet, and can dissolve the assembly at any time.Ĭrown Prince Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmed Al Jaber, an 82-year-old who has assumed many of the duties of the ailing 85-year-old emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah, called Thursday's elections earlier this year when he dissolved parliament. The new assembly will include 27 new members, around a dozen of whom served in previous assemblies, local media reported. Kuwaiti women have increasingly voiced frustration with parliament's failure to pass laws protecting women from abuse and so-called honor killings in the conservative society. Two women were also elected, after the last elections in 2020 saw the sole female legislator in the assembly lose her seat. "Those candidates who are willing to make this a strongly polarized issue did well," she said. She noted that 17 elected lawmakers had signed a widely criticized "values pledge" that calls for gender segregation in Kuwaiti schools and a ban on mixed dance parties. "If those candidates come forth with conservative social positions it will divide those who are pushing for reforms," said Kristin Smith Diwan, a senior resident scholar at the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington. But experts say such candidates could push back on social reforms and protections of women's rights and freedoms. Kuwait's Islamist opposition accuses the government of graft and mismanagement, frequently grilling ministers over their involvement in the misallocation of public funds. Voters appear to have been motivated by growing complaints about official corruption. The results from Thursday's vote, which will bring 27 new members to the 50-member assembly, were seen as a mandate for change amid a prolonged period of gridlock between the Cabinet, which is appointed by the royal family, and the 50-member assembly, which is democratically elected and more independent than similar bodies across the region. 8/6/2023 0 Comments Shakedown hawaii gameplayor at least, could be with the right business modelShakedown: Hawaii fuses op. The observational marketing jokes just don’t land. Bodies in the Back. The entire island is up for grabs. The CEO’s playable adult son, Scooter (or DJ Jockitch), is an insufferable send-up of “kids these days,” and the CEO is too cynical a parody of X-treme Capitalism. Instead, most of my enjoyment came from stealing a car and torching everything in sight with a flamethrower. Perhaps the shakedown missions were meant to be the meat of the game, sprinkled throughout the city like Hyrulian shrines, but they were far too easy and accessible from the start. Thankfully, when I had reached my absolute limit of cutscenes, the story abruptly ends. Only a few missions, starring a mysterious Spanish speaker taking over cartel businesses for the company, offer much action or challenge. While speeding through town and plowing through almost anything is a blast, that feels more like a leftover than a core mechanic. Most often, the CEO just drives from business to business to undo or react to some business mistake he made in a previous cutscene. I quickly amassed enough cash to clear any upcoming story hurdles hundreds of times over. I spent enough time on upgrades to memorize the button presses and maxed everything on autopilot. The uncooperative menu fought me after each purchase. After a short bathroom break, I returned with enough money to buy almost the entire island. This is Shakedown: Hawaii’s unfinished focus. Players can spend this money to buy businesses or exploitative marketing multipliers, like targeted ads and convenience fees. The company makes a daily profit every few in-game minutes. I'd shaken down the entire island within two hours. Each store has its own requirements, like scaring off customers or destroying inventory. These missions see him travel across the Hawaiian island to shakedown small businesses through mob-style terrorism. The CEO rises from his recliner to intimidate his competition into corporate takeovers. The player controls a grumpy CEO and author of “My Company Runs Itself: I'm at the Beach” with his company at the brink of bankruptcy. 8/6/2023 0 Comments Metro exodus multiplayerThroughout the game, you’ll come across materials and chemicals that can be turned into tools and ammo at workstations. Perhaps due to the greater emphasis on exploration, the weapons systems will be different in Exodus.A new crafting system will rely on scavenging. It also seems like a safe bet that the train serves as your means of transportation between each section of the game. Although we don’t know much about the train so far, 4A Games revealed that it will change throughout the story. The Aurora, a train shown in multiple trailers, will replace the stations that served as a place to recharge and converse in 2033 and Last Light. Interestingly, you won’t be able to go back and explore an area once you make the decision to move on. Once you finish an area, you will move onto the next, much like linear level-based games. The sandbox areas will feature linear missions, exploration, and side missions. There will be four sandbox areas, each one representing a specific season. That’s true to an extent, but Exodus will not be a traditional open world game, according to Game Informer.Īs illustrated in each trailer so far, Exodus will abandon the claustrophobic underground tunnels featured in both Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light in favor of above-ground open spaces. Fitbit Versa 3Įverything we’ve seen so far from Metro: Exodus suggested the upcoming entry in the post-apocalyptic shooter franchise would open the game world up for exploration. 8/6/2023 0 Comments Goodtask 3 youtubeThis mobile application helps you to add background music and use rich text. The watch and jewellery fair that had been held uninterrupted since 1917 was finished, with MCH Group announcing they were looking into “follow-up formats” for the event. What came next was a litigious struggle between MCH Group and exhibiting watch brands over refunds for the cancelled show, a struggle that saw Rolex, Patek Philippe, Tudor, Chopard and Chanel pull out of the show. These devastating withdrawals paved the way for the death blow in late February 2020.ĬOVID-19 was still in its early stages of spreading across the globe, but after the second-largest watch fair in Switzerland, Watches & Wonders, cancelled their event, Baselworld was quick to follow suit. In 2018 the entirety of Swatch Group (including brands such as Omega, Breguet, Blancpain, Longines and more) pulled out of the show, followed by Seiko, Grand Seiko and Breitling in 2019. Participation by brands at the fair had been dropping for half a decade, with 1500 exhibitors in 2016 down to just 520 in 2019, a decrease that was also reflected in the number of visitors to the show. If you’re a regular reader of Time+Tide, you will have closely followed our coverage of the demise of the world’s biggest watch fair over recent months. The introduction of the alphabet is not only presenting the order of them from A to Z. These are some beneficial things that we can get by doing letter tracing: When we write with this technique on the tracing alphabet letters worksheet, the dots or dashes must be connected with a line to show the shape of the letter. Some European languages currently using the Latin alphabet do not use the letters K and W, and some add extra letters (usually standard Latin letters with diacritical marks added or sometimes pairs of letters read as one sound).Tracing alphabet letters, or simply letter tracing, is the one technique by following a pattern in the form of dots or dashes that form certain letters. In medieval times the letter I was differentiated into I and J and V into U, V, and W, producing an alphabet equivalent to that of modern English with 26 letters. The Classical Latin alphabet consisted of 23 letters, 21 of which were derived from the Etruscan alphabet. Although experts disagree on the dating of these objects, the inscriptions are generally considered to be the oldest extant examples of the Latin alphabet. Dated not much later than this is a vertical inscription on a small pillar in the Roman Forum, and the Duenos inscription on a vase found near the Quirinal (a hill in Rome) probably dates to the 6th century bce. The earliest inscription in the Latin alphabet appears on the Praeneste Fibula, a cloak pin dating from about the 7th century bce, which reads, “MANIOS MED FHEFHAKED NUMASIOI” (in Classical Latin: “Manius me fecit Numerio,” meaning “Manius made me for Numerius”). Developed from the Etruscan alphabet at some time before 600 bce, it can be traced through Etruscan, Greek, and Phoenician scripts to the North Semitic alphabet used in Syria and Palestine about 1100 bce. Latin alphabet, also called Roman alphabet, the most widely used alphabetic writing system in the world, the standard script of the English language and the languages of most of Europe and those areas settled by Europeans. Some did that by aping their glacial, plinky-plonk synth melodies, some by carbon-copying AE’s crunchy, rapid-fire percussion, but few captured the sound quite as well as Dutch duo E.O.G. It’s pretty safe to say that, if you were making IDM back in the late ’90s, you were probably ripping off Autechre in one way or another. This one stands out for the way it waits until two-thirds of the way through its pretty, folky, baroque arpeggios and scampering drum programming before slamming in an early dubstep bassline. This delightful freakout by Naohiro Fujikawa is kitsch, kooky and intensely, intensely peculiar.įeaturing producers who would go on to become The Village Orchestra and Production Unit, TMBSFG were part of a the proto-Numbers Glasgow scene where genres melted into one another. We wouldn’t be doing our job if there was no mention of the mighty Sub Rosa, the dark beating heart of the avant garde for more decades than we care to remember, and a label that absorbed ‘90s weirdcore electronics like it was born for it. If you’ve ever wondered what Tim Hecker would sound like with beats, here’s your answer. It’s been all but forgotten now, but back in 2000 he put together the really rather good Autumnia LP, before deciding, a year later, to adapt the project to fit the nascent Montreal glitch house scene. John Twells (who, full disclosure, recorded IDM under the Xela moniker) and Joe Muggs have gone through their dusty collections of coloured 10″ vinyl and elaborate Designers Republic sleeves to weed out our 100 favourite IDM tracksīefore Tim Hecker decided to become a drone deity, he made IDM. With everyone from Kanye to Objekt to Skrillex to FlyLo to the PC Music crew all openly referencing the fidgets and glitches – but also the unashamed digital emotions – of the ‘90s experimentalists, these sounds have been fully woven into the fabric of our musical lives. Although the scene itself may have dissolved as those hungry for the new moved onto dubstep, grime, post-rock or folktronica, the sounds kept reverberating. James Album and who was genuinely coming up with the goods. And looking back now, what might’ve seemed niche and geeky then can often seem strangely accessible, even prophetic. Even back in the late ’90s, navigating the genre was a difficult task.Ī good decade later, it’s far easier to separate the wheat from the chaff, and to hear who was simply trying to rewrite Autechre’s Chiastic Slide or Aphex Twin’s Richard D. New labels would spring up overnight, release a compilation and a remix 12″, and disappear in an instant. Skam, Warp, Planet Mu, Toytronic, Isophlux, Merck, Musik Aus Strom, Schematic and more garnered more attention than the artists themselves. It was also a scene that was driven by labels. Production tricks and sound design were often valued over compositional nous, and the scene fractured into a spectrum of internet-friendly micro-genres from the drill’n’bass of Squarepusher and Bogdan Raczynski to the crunchy melodic sounds of Toytronic and Merck. It made sense, really: although the genre started as a reaction to Europe’s goggle-eyed rave culture (if you’d ever strayed into a chillout zone, you’d know why), IDM was ultimately driven by the development and proliferation of cheap (often free) music production software, coupled with a desire from many of the artists to outdo their peers. The internet may have been in its infancy, but IDM was very much at home in a virtual world. Limited edition runs in progressively more elaborate packaging would be sold online and then resold for ridiculously inflated prices. Fans populated heated messageboards and traded tracks on early, buggy filesharing programs, and the artists themselves would share techniques and connect with labels using internet relay chat (IRC). If there was ever a scene to embrace new methods of social networking (before it was called social networking) it was IDM. Eventually it was being used so much that we all stopped fighting it and gave in, even if it was just to make sure we could sell that rare Skam 12″ on eBay or Discogs without having to re-list. The list was used as a platform to discuss a growing set of artists pursuing experimental forms of dance music, and became oddly popular as the music flourished in tandem with the internet itself. We can thank early ‘90s mailing list the IDM List for the awful acronym. Head here to stream the list as a single YouTube playlist.īraindance, electronica, bleep techno – anything was better than the US-centric (and still awkwardly disparaging) ‘intelligent dance music’, but over time the term has stuck. 8/5/2023 0 Comments True story of hanoi rocksAt one point, the Maryland state legislature considered banning her and her films from the state. We had a fun time at the vernissage, enjoyed fine wine and beautiful live music by „ La petit mort“. In the end we are beyond happy with the outcome of this evening. The largest exhibition piece is over two meters long, the smallest only 40 centimeters. Thats why the photographs at our vernissage are everything but standard format. We enable our artists to give every picture its very own, individual dimensions at the highest quality – in our books as well as in art prints. Obviously none of the photographs we showcase at oui, madame is round and all of them are very square, but we nonetheless stayed true to our concept, which stands for an extraordinary format. We found the perfect material in old attic doors and upcycled them into these handmade frames. We decided to pick up the black and wooden theme and create frames from natural wood to contrast and also complement Simon’s black and white pictures. Simon Becker’s mysterious and equally inviting photographs were the obvious choice for this place – it was a perfect match! With lots of black and wooden elements the atmosphere of the bar is very cosy and stylish at the same time. When we got to know this beautiful french wine bar „ oui, madame“ in Mitte, we fell in love right away. Luckily finding the right location for the exhibition wasn’t a challenge at all. Another one is that with this step we set our foot in the field of high quality art print – which you can easily get excited about! One obviously being that we are able to show one of our artist’s work to a broader audience. This was special to us for various reasons. We celebrated the opening of our exhibition of Simon Becker’s photographs from our art book „Eurylochus“. |
